In these dangerous times, we more often fear the dangers outside than the dangers within. But when it comes to child abuse, one of the most dangerous places can be the child's own home. From domestic violence, to sexual abuse by family friends, to cyberbullying on the internet, the home is not always the safe haven it should be.
Luckily, as a parent, there is much you can do to safeguard your child's welfare at home and on the street. Here are some resources that may help:

Report Suspected Child Abuse
According to the For the Sake of Our Children Trust, every day in this country, 30 children are neglected or abused. According to other sources, 12 children die from child abuse in New Zealand every year. New Zealand ranks sixth in the world for child abuse. Is this what we want our country to be known for?
If you're struggling to cope, or if you're worried that a child in your community is being abused, please contact Child, Youth and Family. They ask us to remember: "It's everyone's job to keep children safe."
If you feel that the situation is urgent, then contact the New Zealand police. Details can be found on their website.
