Report a Crime

Report a CrimeIf you are the victim of a crime or suspect a crime has been committed, there are many organizations out there to help.

Report a Sex Crime

According to Rape Prevention Education (RPE), 1 in 4 New Zealand women and 1 in 8 New Zealand men will be the victim of sexual violence or abuse in their lifetime, many before the age of 16.

If you are the victim of a sex crime, or if you know someone who is, RPE is here to help.  Please visit their website today and note the sexual assault support center nearest you.  RPE also gives guidelines on how to report a sexual assault to the police.

If you need immediate assistance, Victim Support is also here to help.  They "provide 24hr emotional support, personal advocacy and information to all people affected by crime and trauma throughout New Zealand."  Their hotline is 0800 VICTIM (0800 842846).

To find the contact details for your local police station, please visit the New Zealand police website.  Alternatively, call 111.

Report Pornography or Offensive Materials

If you think you have come across images of child pornography, please contact Child Alert, a hotline sponsored by ECPAT New Zealand and the Censorship Compliance Unit of the Department of Internal Affairs.

The Department of Internal Affairs is in charge of Censorship Compliance.  Find out what is considered "objectionable" and what the NZ government can do about it by clicking here. If you feel you have come across material that breaches those standards, report it with the department's Online Complaint Form.

Report Suspected Child Abuse

If you're worried that a child in your community is being abused, please contact Child, Youth and Family. They ask us to remember: "It's everyone's job to keep children safe."
