That’s what Adam & Eve Pictures has done.

Adam & Eve is the largest adult online retailer in the United States, going strong since 1970. It stocks over 18,000 products and commands great respect in the industry.

(You might not have known that it wasn’t always an online adult store. It first opened as a business that sold contraceptives via mail order, and it even used to sell mainstream products like outdoor grills!)

What makes Adam & Eve stand out is its focus on healthy, positive, no-holds-barred sexuality. What other retailer ensures that all the adult DVDs it sells promote a sex-positive message, as determined by independent therapists licensed by the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists?

As part of expanding its brand, the company decided to produce its own adult films under the name “Adam & Eve Pictures.” The production company was a success, winning 8 AVN Awards for its films over the past six years.

Adam & Eve has played a large part in building the careers of the next generation of porn stars, including Bree Olson (2008 AVN Award Winner for Best New Starlet), Kayden Kross, and Carmen Luvana.

So it seemed only natural for Adam & Eve to go where no other company has gone before: soliciting input from its fans into what its next adult movie would feature.

It ran a six-week contest, asking users to vote on their dream performer, theme, storyline and location. Over 16,000 votes were cast, and the result is a new Bree Olson movie due to starting filming in a few weeks, featurng Bree as a “sexy neighbor.”

But that’s not the end of customer involvement. Adam & Eve is also asking fans to help choose the title of the film and the DVD box cover.

Is this the next generation of adult film, one where the customers – not the porn companies – decide what they want to see?
