Scientists are always finding new excuses for why we act the way we act, and one of the things they can never seem to understand is why we like pornography so much.

So when they found out that looking at a curvy woman activated the reward centers in men’s brains, they thought they’d hit the motherload.

They showed 14 men pictures of the naked behinds of seven women who’d undergone cosmetic surgery to have more “shapely” hips.

The men responded to the curvy figures with increased activity in regions of the brain that are also associated with responses to alcohol and drugs.

The researchers made sure to add that it didn’t matter how slim or fat the woman was.  What mattered most was her waist-to-hip ratio – in other words, whether or not she had an hourglass figure.

Previous studies have also claimed that women with a low waist-to-hip ratio (0.7, to be exact) are more fertile than those with thicker waists, suggesting that biology is at work ensuring the survival of the species.

So does looking at sexy naked women produce the same effect as drinking a few beers or using drugs?

Adult social networking site xPeeps disagrees.

For them, it’s ludicrous to think that pornography could affect the brain just like a drug.

If that were true, porn could become subject to the same government interference as alcohol and drugs.

Rather, why don’t we just agree that looking at porn feels good, and leave it at that?

Psychologist and family counselor Marty Klein told AVN:

“Of course we're addicted to our own hormones, and also to the rest of our physiological processes.  We like the feeling of fullness after we eat. We like taking a deep breath at the sea. We like the feeling of emptiness after a long-delayed pee. It’s just crazy to think we're victims of our own hormones, but lay people love the idea.”

So maybe curvy women aren’t a drug after all, but there’s no reason to be ashamed of enjoying looking at them.  If you're a guy, your brain is just wired that way.  (Tell that to your partner the next time you get hassled for copping a glance!)
