Don’t Watch Porn Before Making Decisions
International News

bikinisWe shouldn’t need to tell you this, but looking at scantily clad babes impairs a man's ability to make good decisions.

Scientists with nothing better to do have been researching the effects caused by looking at buxom babes in bikinis, and the results are in: men tend to act more impulsively and demand immediate gratification when they’re aroused by sexy images.

This comes from a paper titled, “Bikinis Instigate Generalized Impatience in Intertemporal Choice,” published in the Journal of Consumer Research. You can read the full study here.

The authors of the study showed 358 young men advertisements featuring either landscapes or sexy, scantily-clad women, then offered them a choice: get a small sum of money now or a larger sum of money later.

The sexually aroused men were more likely to settle for the smaller sum, suggesting that arousal had given them “a greater urgency to consume anything rewarding.”

The study’s authors concluded, “[E]xposure to sexual cues may affect decisions such as whether to purchase a less expensive item that can be enjoyed now or to save for a more expensive one.”

The study went on to explore whether sexual cues affected food choice as well as financial decisions, and the results were also positive: “Our research suggests that prior exposure to sexy stimuli may influence the choice between chocolate cake or fruit for dessert.”

So let that be a warning to all you guys reading this.  If you need to make a big financial decision, don’t watch “Baywatch” beforehand.
