Naked PeopleHave you ever watched ordinary people walk by on the street and wonder idly what they would look like naked?  Now you can!

Naked-People.de is the most fun we’ve had in ages. The website displays a series of ordinary people, both male and female.  Alongside their picture are details like their name, their age, and their profession.  Click the image, and the clothes fade away, revealing the naked body beneath.

This isn’t about porn; this is about Art.

Naked People is a project by 31-year-old German photographer Sebastian Kempa.  He is fascinated by the way our identities are shaped by our clothes.  People make a number of assumptions about us based on what we wear, but are those assumptions valid?  Would a man in a suit convey just as much authority if we saw him naked?  What would we think if we knew that conservatively-dressed woman was actually covered in tattoos?

An additional layer of conflicting meaning is added by the fact that we here at Sex.com.au are so familiar with porn.  In pornography, the naked body is sexualized.  By definition, porn stars are reduced to sexual figures; we don’t care about details like their hobbies or day job or real name.

But Naked People challenges that.  These bodies are NOT porn-star perfect, and nudity here is decidedly un-sexual.  Perhaps we’re being challenged to view the naked body from a different point of view: as the vulnerable foundation of our identity, which we cover up every morning to create our public face.
